We left the Tetons early in the morning of the 20th and followed Gros Vendre road for the first thirty minutes, where we saw bison again, as well as the above mule deer. It is a pretty road, and seems to have abundant wildlife. We also spotted (Helen's great eye) a male pronghorn sitting in a field of lupine and sage:
We continued up the road to enter Yellowstone NP, and followed the Lewis River, pulling off to look at the lovely Lewis Falls, which seemed to have a solidified mound of obsidian glinting in the sun near the falls:
The Lewis River (and the falls, too) is named, of course, for Meriwether Lewis, and it ultimately flows into Lewis Lake. We drove along its path for a considerable length, stopping at pullovers large enough for my rig plus trailer, to explore. Helen was watching her knee, so she didn't go down to the river, but Liz did--and tested the water to see how cool it was (pretty cold):
We continued to the West Thumb Geyser Basin, which had some spectacular hot boiling springs, and deep blue pools, including the Abyss:
Few side roads (leading to interesting areas) allowed RVs, so we mainly continued on our way to the Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone--a lovely park, with lots of grass around our trailer. We rendezvoused with the other three trailers who are caravanning, and planned our joint meal for tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be an early day to get our along the north part of the Yellowstone loop.
